Negatives, where you lower a heavier weight, up to 120% of your 1RM, very slowly, lets you take advantage of eccentric loading, where you’re strongest. They also cause greater muscle damage, which paves the way for more growth, and they help you build mass because the weight is so heavy that it shocks your central nervous system. Therefore, the body has no choice but to make something happen. Negatives can also give you more confidence when you return to your usual weights. Remember though you should use negatives sparingly. Do only 4-5 reps on the last set or two of your major exercises.
